EMS Bike Team
When large crowds gather, getting to a patient can present special challenges. An extension of Lafayette’s special services EMS cyclists brings advanced medical care with a special form of mobility that works in tight spaces and large crowds. Operating as a two to four person team each consisting of EMTs and Paramedics carrying a comprehensive array of equipment and capability
Equipment and Training
Modified mountain bikes configured for path pavement riding and carrying EMS gear. EMS bicycles also have sirens and warning lights. The Uniform is an extension of the standard Lafayette uniforms including reflective jerseys as well as padded convertible bdu/shorts. To get ready Lafayette will host an International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) course. The IPMBA EMS Cyclist course emphasizes such EMS specific concerns as cycling with a heavy load, EMS gear management, and scene safety.
In ordert to make the team successful Lafayette is looking for corporate sponsors of the bike team.
